Manchester Monarchs Watch: Who Will Be At Camp?
Our Russian prospect tractor beam may be fully operational
The Manchester Monarchs are taking their physicals for training camp today. Here is the official roster:
16 Forwards
Andy Andreoff, Marc-Andre Cliche, Richard Clune, Robbie Czarnik, Justin Johnson, Brandon Kozun, Stefan Legein, Andrei Loktionov, David Meckler, Jordan Nolan, Brian O’Neill, Tanner Pearson, Nikolay Prokhorkin, Tyler Toffoli, Linden Vey, Jordan Weal
7 Defensemen
Andrew Bodnarchuk, Andrew Campbell, Nick Deslauriers, Thomas Hickey, David Kolomatis, Jake Muzzin, Slava Voynov
2 Goalies
Martin Jones, J.F. Berube
A few notes on the roster:
- Reports have been swirling for weeks about the whereabouts and contract status of Andrei Loktionov. He appeared to be ready to sign with Severstal of the KHL --even reportedly passing a physical. Then Severstal's spokesman would not comment on the matter, and the Kings made it known that they would suspend Loktionov's contract. Now, according to the Monarchs' Twitter account, Loktionov is expected to be there. I guess we'll find out today, eh?
- There doesn't seem to be any question at all that Slava Voynov will show up. So Prokhorkin will have at at least someone to talk to (he doesn't seem to know English yet).
- There was also reportedly some dispute between the Kings and CSKA of the KHL about Prokhorkin's contract -- CSKA objected to his signing, and the Kings contended that CSKA's contract was invalid. Prokhorkin is definitely in Manchester right now. So either the dispute was settled, or they're simply hoping it will be. Either way, it'd be nice to hear some official word on this.
- The LA Kings Insider had a thorough interview with Monarchs coach Mark Morris about training camp. He mentioned some uncertainty about defense prospect Colin Miller ("We’re still waiting for confirmation about whether he’s coming to our camp. My understanding was that he was going back to junior. But I don’t know his status.") Miller's not on the Manchester roster list and is currently playing for the Soo Greyhounds, whose season has already begun. He's also serving as alternate captain. It would surprise me if he's going be there./
Do you plan to follow the Manchester Monarchs this season? If so, stick around. We'll keep you posted.
