Draft Lottery 2015: LA Has a 2% Chance to Make Everyone Angry

We’re coming up on the event which could make the Los Angeles Kings missing the playoffs COMPLETELY worth the pain. The draft lottery is tomorrow!

Coverage starts at 5:00 PM Pacific on NBC and CBC, and the Kings have a whopping 2.0% chance of winning the draft lottery and being awarded the #1 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. Of course, the chances are that LA will end up in their assigned slot, at #13…

… but the Internet implosion that would result from LA winning the lottery would be HILARIOUS.

This year, the actual lottery process will be shown live. Four balls (out of fourteen, numbered 1-14) will be randomly selected, and the combination will correspond to one team. That team gets the #1 pick. With a 2.0% chance, that’s 20 possible combinations out of 1001 which would result in the jackpot for the Kings. (My favorite part: if the balls picked are 11, 12, 13, and 14, we start all over.)

If you’re going to be watching live, here’s your reference: a table of every possible combination of balls which gives LA the #1 pick.

  1. 2, 3, 4, 6
  2. 2, 4, 5, 12
  3. 2, 4, 7, 8
  4. 2, 4, 7, 11
  5. 2, 6, 8, 11
  6. 2, 7, 9, 11
  7. 2, 8, 9, 12
  8. 3, 4, 5, 11
  9. 3, 4, 5, 12
  10. 3, 4, 6, 11
  11. 3, 4, 9, 13
  12. 3, 6, 7, 12
  13. 3, 6, 7, 14
  14. 3, 6, 8, 13
  15. 3, 6, 13, 14
  16. 4, 6, 12, 14
  17. 5, 9, 10, 11
  18. 6, 8, 13, 14
  19. 7, 8, 10, 12
  20. 9, 10, 11, 14

Print those combos out and guard them with your life.

[UPDATE: The lottery results will be revealed live, but the actual drawing will not be shown. DUMB.]

As for that 13th pick, which LA has a 97% chance of being assigned due to Saturday’s lottery? The Kings have gotten the 13th pick twice in their 48-year history. One of those players didn’t turn out so great.

The other one?
