Breaking news: the San Jose Sharks traded for superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson.

Okay, time to pull ourselves together, gang.
This time I really mean it.
The worst/best part of the trade is that Doug Wilson essentially traded spare parts for one of the best defensemen in the world.
Life is sometimes really, really unfair. According to ESPN,
San Jose is sending the Senators a first-round pick in 2019 or 2020, a second-round pick in 2019, forwards Chris Tierney, Josh Norris and Rudolfs Balcers, defenseman Dylan DeMelo and two conditional draft picks. The Sharks also get forward Francis Perron.
Ottawa also gets a second-round pick in 2021 if Karlsson re-signs with the Sharks. That pick becomes a first if the Sharks make the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. The Senators also will receive a first-rounder in 2021 or 2022 if Karlsson is on an Eastern Conference roster this season.
So, essentially for a few picks and so-so players, the Sharks got a generational player.

Ok, real talk. The Kings could never have been in the running because they never had the cap space. BUT THIS STILL HURTS. And given what the Vegas Golden Knights gave up for Max Pacioretty and the 1-for-1 trade for Alex Galchenyuk that went down in Arizona earlier this summer, the Pacific Division is looking to be very, very painful this year.
