NHLPA Files Grievance on Behalf of Mike Richards
The forward had his contract terminated six weeks ago; now, we move on to the next stage in the process.
Mike Richards' contract was terminated by the Los Angeles Kings on June 29 due to a "material breach." Big shocker: the NHLPA wasn't okay with that.

Yes, it took a while to come to this, but due to the 60-day timetable and the innumerable legal points relating to this process, there was no way the NHLPA was going to immediately jump into this one.
There's still quite a bit we don't know about Richards' arrest and subsequent termination -- what we do know is all right here -- but I think everyone knew that such an unprecedented move was not going to go without a word from the Players' Association. (At least, beyond their initial statement.) The hearing, reportedly, could be expedited, but it will almost certainly occur later this offseason.
We'll update this story with any further details and, presumably, another statement from the NHLPA.
