Ontario Reign Practice Quotes: Paul Bissonnette & Kyle Clifford Weigh In

Paul Bissonnette, on if he read John Scott’s Players’ Tribune piece from today:

Yeah, I read it, it was good. I liked it a lot.

Bissonnette, on Scott attending the All-Star Game:

I think it’s great. It’s kind of one of those situations where a lot of the stars, they need some rest. And for a guy like that, who’s put in his time…it’s kind of a fun thing. I don’t think people were necessarily making fun of him. I think they just want to see maybe guys who don’t really get to show off their skills in games, be able to participate in a game where their responsibility isn’t just getting it deep and fighting. So it should be pretty cool. The fact that he’s playing, I want to watch now. It’s cool. It’s good to see.

Bissonnette, on if the NHL ever reprimanded him for his own All-Star voting campaign a few years back:

No, but it never got to that point. I didn’t think it would.

If it was me [in Scott’s place], I probably would have basically said, “I’ll not go, but I probably would want Shane Doan to go in my place.” That’s probably where I would’ve stood with it, just because it might be his last year or one of his last years, and he’s having a great year. So that’s probably the route I would have took. But I think the way Phoenix maybe treated the situation as well as the league…I think initially, he was kind of like, “No, I’m not going to go.” But when they started kind of treating him like that, he was like, “You know what? I’m going to take advantage of this.”

Obviously with the way the fighting’s going and getting weeded out, it may be one of his last years in the NHL. So if I were him, to bring your wife and kids to something like that, would be very cool, and something he’ll remember forever.

Kyle Clifford, on the John Scott controversy:

He got voted in the All-Star game. That’s what it is. So the fans want it, that’s what they got.

Clifford, on his most recent injury, and if he had any thoughts about tinkering with his playing style to prevent future concussions:

No…that was the second documented one. So, no.
