Player Power Rankings III: Let’s Talk About Tyler Toffoli

Week 3 of the Los Angeles Kings Player Power Rankings is upon us, and we’ve had to add a bunch of players to the mix.

1. Anze Kopitar (Last Week: 1)

Quietly has recorded 18 points in 19 games. Par for the course.

2. Mike Richards (Last Week: 2)

Points streak was cracked last night, but he’s been terrific.

3. Justin Williams (Last Week: 3)

Still doing excellent work on the top line. (This description has not changed from last week.)

4. Drew Doughty (Last Week: 4)

Cleared the 30-minute mark in Tuesday’s defeat against Buffalo, and his scoring chance and Corsi numbers over the last week have been unreal.

5. Tyler Toffoli (Last Week: 8)

Seven points in five games; he’s replaced Jeff Carter on the second line and it’s barely missed a beat. Oh, and a game-winning goal last night, if you missed it.

6. Willie Mitchell (LW: 7)

Plugging away, and has teamed well with Alec Martinez.

7. Ben Scrivens (LW: 10)

Ben Scrivens is the seventh best player on the Los Angeles Kings. (Quick, someone print this out and tape it inside his locker! Positive reinforcement!)

8. Dustin Brown (LW: 9)

He’s still not scoring. He’s also leading the team in drawing penalties and hits, and the Kings are outscoring their opponents 9:1 with him on the ice at even strength. That won’t last, but neither will his scoring drought now that he’s back on the top line. (Right?)

9. Jake Muzzin (LW: 12)

He and Doughty are excelling, and though Muzzin is getting easier assignments, he’s thriving.

10. Dwight King (LW: 13)

The best indication that King is succeeding: he’s managed to stick in the top 6, and no one is complaining.

11. Linden Vey (LW: 20)

I told you we’d wait a week before moving him up the rankings. A highlight-reel move on Saturday, two secondary assists yesterday, and he’s been reasonably effective in all situations (though yesterday’s penalty kills were a bit… scrambly.)

12. Slava Voynov (LW: 6)

Looked awful for much of yesterday and struggled this week, but picked up a goal (and his game) at a critical time yesterday.

13. Robyn Regehr (LW: 14)

Best game of the season on Thursday, which was very encouraging after two up-and-down performances.

14. Jordan Nolan (LW: 21)

Nolan had a really good week, and not just because his dad got hired by the Sabres.

15. Alec Martinez (LW: 17)

Picking his game up as of late, and finally got his first point of the season.

16. Tanner Pearson (LW: Not Ranked)

Exercising caution with this ranking, but he scored yesterday! More than can be said for anyone below him.

17. Colin Fraser (LW: 24)

Got his fourth-line center spot back thanks to injuries and has been… fine!

18. Trevor Lewis (LW: 18)

Ended up on a line with Linden Vey and Tanner Pearson. After being separated in the third, Vey and Pearson each got on the scoresheet. Pretty much sums up the year Lewis has had.

19. Matt Frattin (LW: 19)

I just don’t know. I really don’t. Eight games without a point; getting shots lately, but nothing happening.

20. Daniel Carcillo (LW: 15)

The odd man out. It’s been a hard fall for him since his top-10 ranking in the first edition.

21. Jeff Carter (LW: 5)

22. Jonathan Quick (LW: 11)

23. Matt Greene (LW: 22)

24. Jarret Stoll (LW: 23)

25. Kyle Clifford (LW: 16)

N/A. Martin Jones (LW: Not Ranked)

Agree? Disagree? Tell us how you’d change the rankings.
