Postgame/Rank the Players: Take Five (Take Another Five)

Knowing that the Los Angeles Kings scored another five goals tonight, which five players did you think would get them?

Well, okay, we all guessed Tyler Toffoli would score one. But how about Dwight King, Michael Mersch, Trevor Lewis, and Dustin Brown with the other four? Believe it.

Honestly, the Edmonton Oilers were not terrible today. It’s tough to bounce back from allowing three goals in 96 seconds, and you can attribute a lot of the Oilers’ third period surge to the Kings sitting on a multi-goal lead, but Jonathan Quick had to weather some serious pressure to ensure that LA could enjoy the end of the game a little bit.

Cam Talbot had a rough go of it, though, and before a typical Toffoli goal chased him from the net at 3-0, he gave up a rough short-side goal to King, then was so focused on not being beaten at his post that he got beat five-hole by Mersch. Not to take anything away from either guy, though; Mersch’s first career goal was a nice power move, and King showed some legitimate hustle in his first game back to set up that goal. He also got an assist on Lewis’ goal (#4) and provided net-front presence on Brown’s goal (#5).

So, it goes without saying that the third line had an awesome night. More to come in the recap, including how the Kings showed no respect whatsoever for Rexall Place in their final game there.
