Postgame/Rank the Players: Kings Take Pittsburgh to a Shootout (and Win)

The officials really let both teams play tonight. Given how many chances Pittsburgh had on Jonathan Quick, I kinda wish they’d let them play a little bit less…

So what did you think of each player on the Los Angeles Kings tonight? Give a thumbs up to any player who you thought did well, and a thumbs down to any player you thought had a rough game. (If you’re not sure or if you thought a player was “eh”, you can simply skip them.) The players will get ranked based on your votes. GO!

You throw everything out the window when the game gets to the shootout, but there was a whole lot to throw out. 82 shots on goal, a tremendous goal by Tanner Pearson, a dramatic late equalizer by Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Nolan shoving a referee (not smart), and lots of physical play. Michael Mersch made his debut, Jonathan Quick stopped 40 shots to top Marc-Andre Fleury, and Phil Kessel still managed to not score.

In the end, though, it came down to Anze Kopitar and Marian Gaborik putting on a clinic in the shootout (after the clinic they put on in OT didn’t result in a goal). It’s a six-game win streak, and unbelievably, the Kings could have their second seven-game win streak of this young season after tomorrow’s contest in Buffalo.
