Postgame/Rank the Players: Devils Grind Kings into Nothingness

Glad that one’s over! At least there weren’t many stoppages. Until the end, at least, when the frustration truly reared its head for Drew Doughty and the Los Angeles Kings.

Not many observations here, because there really weren’t many to be had. The New Jersey Devils are defensive stalwarts. LA played reasonably well but couldn’t open them up. The Devils’ power play stayed hot, while LA only had one chance on the PP and squandered it. Alec Martinez hit a post and saved a goal. The third period saw the puck repeatedly bouncing in the crease, to no avail. Trevor Lewis finally put one through Keith Kinkaid’s legs with two minutes left but it also hit the post.

We’ll have more in the recap. Let’s just say this New York/New Jersey trip didn’t go quite as well as it has in the past few years.
