It felt like this matchup didn’t get a lot of hype — that’s probably because it didn’t, thanks to Chicago’s 12-game win streak — but it lived up to whatever hype did exist. After all, it was the first matchup between the current top team in the Pacific and the longtime (though now, former) top team in the Central, and a chance to see Anze Kopitar and Tyler Toffoli go head-to-head with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Tonight, the Los Angeles Kings did an impressive job locking down Dallas Stars‘ big threats; neither made the scoresheet, and Benn didn’t even have a shot on goal. But the defense might get overshadowed by the offense, as the following streaks were extended:
- Jake Muzzin‘s third period assist gave him an eight-game point streak, the Kings’ longest by a blueliner since the days of Lubo.
- Anze Kopitar had yet another multi-point effort; he’s got a five-game point streak and 20 points in his last 12 contests.
- Milan Lucic‘s game-winner in the third (assisted by the aforementioned players) extends his point streak to five.
- And Vincent Lecavalier (!) now has goals in three straight after his power play tally opened the scoring.
