What to Watch
We’ll make this quick, since the game is rapidly approaching, and it’s preseason, so there’s not much to deep dive into anyway.
- The Kings and Canucks return to Salt Lake City, Utah for the second year in a row. While Trevor Lewis will feature prominently, it appears from morning skate today that Daniel Brickley, the other Utah native, may not draw in the lineup tonight. While there haven’t been any firm indications of who will play, other than Lewis and new acquisition Ben Hutton, Todd McLellan looks set to use a very young lineup tonight. Based on the performances of the younger rosters, that could actually be the key to success for the Kings. The younger skaters have driven play since the start of the preseason, and what they lack in finesse, they make up for in enthusiasm.
- The Canucks have won three of four preseason games, including a 6-1 win over Edmonton on Thursday. Six different Canucks recorded goals in that one. The Canucks look to be icing a mostly NHL-ready roster, including Elias Pettersson on the top line, so look for the Kings to either contain him or be too awestruck to get in his way. Old friend Tanner Pearson will be on the third line.
- Zane McIntyre, who’s spent his career largely with the AHL’s Providence Bruins, looks to start in net for the Canucks. The starter for the Kings is unclear but you might as well just assume it’s Jonathan Quick./
