Manchester Monarchs – Hats Off in Comeback Win

Right wing Bud Holloway recorded the second hat trick in franchise post-season history as the Manchester Monarchs edged out the Binghamton Senators in overtime by a 5-4 margin in the third game of the 2011 Calder Cup Atlantic Division Semifinal Series […]. The Monarchs hold a 2-1 edge in the best-of-seven series.

[…] Holloway completed the hat trick with his game-winning goal at 1:43 of the overtime period. […] Holloway scored his first goal of the Calder Cup Playoffs at 10:50 of the second period. From the left point, defenseman David Kolomatis sent the puck deep into the zone, connecting with center Brayden Schenn below the goal line near the right post. Calmly possessing the puck, Schenn passed the puck to Holloway, positioned at the top of the goal crease. A quick wrist shot beat Barry Brust for the Monarchs first goal of the game.

[…] Martin Jones […] relieved Jeff Zatkoff following the first period […] Zatkoff (1-1) did not factor into the decision, as he stopped 15-of-18 shots on goal in the first period before yielding to Jones in the second period. Jones (1-0) recorded his first playoff victory, as he halted 14-of-15 shots on net in regulation and overtime. […]

Bud Holloway’s hat trick is only the second hat trick in the Monarchs playoff history; the first came nine years ago to the day, April 17, 2002, when right wing Adam Mair scored the franchise’s first hat trick in the team’s 6-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack […] Holloway now holds the Monarchs post-season record for goals as well as points, as his four-point performance this evening gives him 10 playoff goals alongside 19 points (10-11=19) in 19 games […] Holloway also recorded an assist on left wing Dwight King’s game-tying goal, making Holloway the fourth player in franchise post-season history to record four points in one game…The last player to accomplish the feat was right wing Alexandre Daigle against Hartford on April 25, 2006 in an 8-6 win.

Alexandre Daigle played for the Monarchs? I don’t think I ever knew that. (Looked it up. 16 games in 2005-06.

Holloway scored two goals in the second period, marking only the sixth time a Monarchs player has accomplished the feat in team post-season history…Center Trevor Lewis accomplished the feat twice during the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs…Holloway’s overtime goal was the fastest such strike in post-season history for Manchester, breaking the record previously held by defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov, who scored 1:55 into overtime against Worcester on May 7, 2010 […] Jake Muzzin scored his second third period goal in as many games this evening.

  • Schenn was a plus-3, Brandon Kozun plus-2.
  • WHL – Linden Vey, 1 goal, 2 assists — Medicine Hat eliminates Red Deer, 5-4 in OT. Medicine Hat plays Kootenay in the Eastern Conference Finals.
  • QMJHL – Nicolas Deslauriers, 2 assists, +3 — Gatineau eliminates Drummondville.
  • QMJHL – Jean-Francois Berube is done, as Montreal lost to Lewiston.
  • So it’s Vey, Maxim Kitsyn and Deslauriers still alive, heading into the semi-finals in their respective leagues. I suppose it would be too much to ask that Medicine Hat, Mississuaga and Gatineau could all make it to the Memorial Cup. Too much to ask, but so what?
