Quarterfinals set in IIHF Men’s Worlds

Kevin Fiala after scoring for Switzerland.

The quarterfinals of the IIHF Men’s Worlds Championship were set in dramatic fashion this week. While teams like the USA (undefeated in 7 games) and Sweden sailed through without question, there was plenty of high drama for other teams.

Most notably, Slovakia’s fate was out of their hands, as they required a regulation loss from Latvia in order to move on.

Latvia, playing at home, had other ideas:

The stunning overtime win from Latvia had no reall impact on Switzerland, but it did ultimately knock Slovakia, and Kings prospect Martin Chromiak, out of the tournament. All other Kings players have moved on to the quarterfinal round.
