Rank the Players: Four Out of Five Ain’t Great
The Kings can’t capitalize on two good periods and lose in the third.
The Kings lose for the fourth time in five games, but the good news is, they’re still... even after all that... on pace for a playoff spot. Rank ‘em!
Okay, you check the score and you see that the Kings outshot their opponents by double digits and lost. Sometimes it’s the goaltending, and it was certainly better for Florida tonight. Sometimes it’s the scoring chances being better for the other team, and Florida did get a couple better ones. Sometimes it’s just plain ol’ luck, and maybe if Jake Muzzin doesn’t fall down retreating into his own zone or Nick Shore doesn’t see his backhanded stab at the puck glance of Roberto Luongo’s glove and the post it’s a different game.
I’d harp on all that if the Kings had played a good third period. Unfortunately, they didn’t, and as LA trailed for the final 19:45 of the frame, they failed to generate the kind of pressure they’d gotten in the first two periods. So it goes.
