Rank the Players: Early Dominance, Late Victory

A home-and-home sweep against the San Jose Sharks. Isn’t that lovely? Rank ‘em:

It would have been a gut-wrenching loss for the Kings if they’d gone down in regulation, given how long they outplayed the Sharks for in San Jose. It would have been gut-wrenching for the Sharks, too, for that matter; they had the lead after two periods and hit a post down the stretch. Nic Dowd did too, though, and neither team was too upset to seal a single point by getting to overtime.

One point was a good result for the Kings. Two points is a GREAT result, and Tanner Pearson got it by finishing off a 2-on-1 with Jeff Carter. Carter waited just long enough to pass, so that Martin Jones couldn’t get across in time. And why wouldn’t Jones wait? He’d already been beaten by a Carter deflection in regulation.

Carter sealed his All-Star bona fides tonight, and the Kings earned some momentum heading into a few weeks of home ice. Good stuff.
