Remembering Pavol Demitra

Today we remember Pavol Demitra and all those lost from Lokomotiv.

Demitra was beloved everywhere he went — not just a fine talent, but also a kind soul.

Watch the outpouring of love from his countrymen after the captain’s final game in international competition. This was the 2011 IIHF World Championships, a win against Denmark:

We thought we were witnessing his retirement. It turned out to be a last farewell.

The emotion in the building is incredible.

I don’t want to just remember the sadness of his loss.

One of my favorite Demitra moments was his shootout goal against Russia in the 2010 Olympics for the win. Patience and skill personified to beat Bryzgalov.

Jump-out-of-your-seat wow.
