SAAAAAASHAAAAAAAA!

Frolov signed with the Rangers, a one year deal for $3MM. This makes me sad because I have always supported Frolov, even through his wild inconsistencies, etc., etc., and now he’s gone (at least for a year, right? hahaha).

The fact that the deal is for $3MM (as reported by infallible Twitter) tells me that there was no offer from the

Kings

. Unless I have misread Frolov in his interviews where I got the impression he really, really wanted to stay here. I could be wrong, of course. He could be mad at being treated like a doormat, if in fact that’s how he feels he was treated. Many people think he was treated unfairly by Terry Murray. I don’t think so. I don’t have any idea if Frolov thinks so. Maybe he just thinks a change will do him good. And this is probably true. I predicted he would score 35 goals last year and was slightly over-optimistic, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him do that in New York, where his defensive responsibilities might be lighter. So, anyway, maybe he was upset and turned down a $3.5MM deal from Lombardi. But I doubt it. My guess is Lombardi has moved on, and that tells me all I need to know about his assessment of Frolov’s worth at that low price, even.

Rangers will now have ex-Kings on three of four lines. Frolov, Sean Avery and Brian Boyle. Also, it just occurred to me that Frolov’s exit reduces the number of Dave Taylor picks still with the organization, to four: Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar, Jonathan Quick and Scott Parse. Who will be the next to leave? Wow, that’s a loaded question. Save it for the round-table…

I’m almost afraid to read the comments, expecting a lot of “wake up Lombardi when are you going to do something we’re taking a step backward why couldn’t you even sign FROLOV we’re not even going to make the playoffs this year you gambled and lost we need a real GM why is it always the same in LA why can’t we ever blah blah blah.”

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s summer. A lot can happen between now and camp. Also, nothing can happen. It will be one of those two.
