Maxim Kitsyn wasn’t scared to be labeled as the enemy when he first played in the OHL: “Those are big words. But when I first met our coach [Dave Cameron], who coached Team Canada in Buffalo, he approached me and said: ‘give me my gold back!’“I also play with Casey Cizikas; we played against each other in the final game. Now we have good ties, we help each other on ice. Now no one is already thinking about that defeat, and we need to focus on the rest of the season. Mississauga has high ambitions this season”, Kitsyn declared to Sport Express.
Kitsyn also didn’t witness what happened in the airport after the game: “Here people isn’t that angry also because they started talking about what happened in the airport. When he was asked about how he was welcomed in other arenas, Kitsyn didn’t hide that it hasn’t been easy. “My first two games were played away. And the speakers, before the game, cared to announce that in the game there will be ‘World Junior Champion Maxim Kitsyn’. Since the start of the first game I got the impression that the opposition was trying to agitate me. In the corners they did had some good stick-work, perhaps too much of it.”
[…] “I tried observing my teammate, but no one of them really got such a welcome in the league. But after the first bunch of games all this stopped and now they play normally even against me. Now even I put the WJC behind my shoulders.”
After some time, the sized winger is happy about his move overseas: “I consider this transfer a step forward for me. All happened fast. I wanted to get some quality ice time in a top level league. I was dreaming about playing in Canada and I really wanted to test myself in the world’s top junior league.”
[…] “I had some good offers from KHL’s top teams. But I needed to face the reality. Playoffs are for veterans. Youngsters during the playoffs either ride the pine or play fourth line hockey. I think that for a player of my age the most useful thing is to get quality ice time.”

[…] “I like the OHL. Playing in the small ice surface is different. There are many fights for the puck, but also our team tries to play combinational hockey with a good passing game and not just shooting the puck on the offensive zone. Here there aren’t many spectators, but two thousand and half to three thousands are always attending.”
The late ’91 born wanted to share his emotions when he met Los Angeles Kings’ General Manager after a game. “I was very surprised. It’s hard to say how I would have played if I knew he was attending the game. But he approached me and said ‘I like the way you play’. […]”
