Wednesday’s Standings in Points Blown

The Good: Stars lose, Flames lose, Avs lose, Blues half-lose (OT).

The Bad: Sharks win, three-point game.

Colorado drops below the Kings for the first time in awhile. Five points separate the 3rd from 9th seed. With the Flames’ loss, Kings are now 2 points from 3rd, 3 points from 9th — 10 points from 1st and 12th. Dallas is now 6 points behind the Kings. It would be nice if they would crap out completely, leaving nine teams fighting for eight spots.

Two points “awarded” for every loss, one point for every OTL/SOL. Lowest point total is best. In parentheses are the official (ESPN) rankings. Last number (+/-) is number of points (in my system) ahead or behind Los Angeles.

  1. Chicago 23 (1) +10
  2. San Jose 25 (2) +8
  3. Calgary 31 (3) +2
  4. Phoenix 32 (4) +1
  5. Los Angeles 33 (8) —
  6. Nashville 33 (7) 0
  7. Vancouver 33 (6) 0
  8. Colorado 34 (5) -1
  9. Detroit 36 (9) -3
  10. Dallas 39 (10) -6
  11. Minnesota 43 (11) -10
  12. St. Louis 43 (12) -10
  13. Anaheim 45 (13) -12
  14. Columbus 49 (14) -16
  15. Edmonton 49 (15) -16

Tie breaker is games-played, except that the winner of the tie breaker is the team who has played more games. If this seems counter-intuitive, consider this: A team with a 10-2 record is better than a team with a 2-2 record, who is, in turn better than a team that’s 0-2.
