This Week in Kings (3/2/15)

So let’s just be real here: today is the NHL trade deadline, which means approximiately zero of you will be reading this. You’ll all be thrilling yourselves with the many huge blockbusters, like the reverend from the Simpsons going back to Pittsburgh. In addition to this, I also happen to be on vacation in this lovely little spot a few of you may have heard of, called Los Angeles. But because I love you all and also because of my obsessive need to have every single week covered in the archives, I’ve ducked into a Barnes & Noble in the middle of the Grove (it’s one of those awful artificial outdoor mall things that they try to make look like a corporation’s twisted version of Main Street, USA back before they put them all out of business) to at least churn something out. Yes, TWIK veterans should know what all this adds up to: it’s time for a No (Or At Least Very Little) Text Edition of TWIK! Yeah!!!

This Week in Games

(here’s all the games involving the Pacific Division from this past week. we’ll talk about the LA Kings’ games in great detail, while the rest will mostly just be scores, unless there’s something that really stood out about them. you’ll also get links to Eric’s awesome recaps which will expand on everything I’m saying in much greater detail if you missed any of them.)

Monday, February 23rd

-New Jersey Devils 3, Arizona Coyotes 0

Anaheim Ducks 4, Detroit Red Wings 3 (SO)

Tuesday, February 24th

-New York Islanders 5, Arizona Coyotes 1

-New York Rangers 1, Calgary Flames 0

Edmonton Oilers 2, Minnesota Wild 1

Los Angeles Kings 1, Detroit Red Wings 0: (recap) (gamethread)

Wednesday, February 25th

Calgary Flames 3, New Jersey Devils 1

-Ottawa Senators 3, Anaheim Ducks 0

Thursday, February 26th

-Buffalo Sabres 6, Vancouver Canucks 3

-New York Rangers 4, Arizona Coyotes 3

-Ottawa Senators 1, Los Angeles Kings 0: Bullshit. (recap) (gamethread)

-Detroit Red Wings 3, San Jose Sharks 2

Friday, February 27th

-New York Islanders 2, Calgary Flames 1

Anaheim Ducks 4, Los Angeles Kings 2: Here are my abbreviated live game thoughts: holy crap the Honda Center is a dump. Sekera looks poised with the puck, moves it well. I think the Ducks in-game entertainment crew took a shot at the Kings on the video in every single TV timeout except for one, which is frankly just an amazing display of self-conscious jealous loathing. Haha, the fans aren’t taunting us at all on our way out the building cause they all know we have the ultimate comeback. Oh well, at least 2/3rds of this game was fun. (recap) (gamethread)

Saturday, February 28th

-Boston Bruins 4, Arizona Coyotes 1

-St. Louis Blues 2, Edmonton Oilers 1

-Ottawa Senators 4, San Jose Sharks 2

Sunday, March 1st

-Winnipeg Jets 5, Los Angeles Kings 2: (gamethread)

Vancouver Canucks 6, St. Louis Blues 5 (SO)

Third in the Pacific was nice while it lasted, huh? Thank god the Flames and Sharks are both terrible, I guess.

Yeah, out of the playoffs again, whatever. I feel pretty confident predicting they won’t be out nearly as long this time as last, but who knows I guess.

That’s all for This Week in Kings. There won’t be a Jewelcast tonight, BUT there will be one this Wednesday, and it will be easily our biggest episode ever, at least in terms of the sheer number of people on it. Expect Eric, Sheng, Nick, and Langluy from this site alone, and perhaps a few extra surprise guests as well. And since we’ll all be in the same room together for once, perhaps we’ll be able to do it without talking over each other! Probably not though! But we’ll try! So be sure to check back on Wednesday for all the details on how you can listen in.
