Kings announce 2021 roster, taxi squad

The 2021 LA Kings season begins tomorrow night with a two-game series at Staples Center against the Minnesota Wild. The final cuts have been made and today, the team announced a series of moves and the opening night roster.

First, forwards Martin Frk and Alex Turcotte, defenders Sean Walker and Kurtis MacDermind, as well as goaltender Cal Peterson have been designated as injured/non-roster. Per the NHL, Walker, MacDermid and Peterson are all unavailable due to COVID Protocol.

The final players to join the Ontario Reign’s training camp will be forwards Quinton Byfield and Arthur Kaliyev, who won Silver and Gold, respectively, at the 2021 World Juniors Championship earlier this month.

The Kings also announced that three additional players will be changing their jersey number this season. Forward Carl Gundstrom will become the first Kings player to wear the number 91 (previously 38). Forward Gabriel Vilardi will be wearing 13, instead of 42. Defender Kale Clague has changed his number from 34 to 58. The team previously announced that Austin Wagner changed his number from 51 to 27.

All teams this season are required to carry a taxi squad of four to six players and carry three goaltenders between their roster and taxi squad.
