What to Watch

  • The Kings wrapped up a road trip with more wins than we expected, and overall a stronger performance than anticipated against some of the better teams in the league. They pushed the Blue Jackets and Penguins to overtime, beat the Bruins, and while they didn’t pull out a win against the Sabres, they at least looked generally competent. No complaints here.
  • The Blues sit atop the Central Division, with the Avalanche only slightly behind. They’re currently on a five-game winning streak and have won seven of their last 10. They’re doing all of it with a very banged up roster, including superstar Vladimir Tarasenko, who was injured during the game the last time the Kings and Blues met. /
  • Kale Clague made his NHL debut on Saturday against Buffalo and looked fine. He was on the ice for two goals against but hey, so was Anze Kopitar, you know? His smooth skating was on display and he generally seemed poised with the puck. Clague even saw a brief amount of power play time. (Doughty was the only defenseman who saw any significant amount of time on the man advantage.) While we’ll see what the morning skate brings, I wouldn’t object to seeing him in the lineup more frequently. /
