Connie’s Playoff Predictions

It’s that time, playoff predictions! I have been slaving away on my bracket and have finally settled in on something I’m satisfied with. I’m comfortable with my Eastern Conference picks but I will say that the West is still iffy for me. I have all rounds chosen and locked in as well as the Stanley Cup winner, but for posting purposes, I’ll be going round by round.

Western Conference

San Jose Sharks (1) vs. Colorado Avalanche (8): Avalanche in 5
By sheer principle, the Sharks will not make it out of Round 1. Sure there are those people who think this is San Jose’s year, but I’m here to say, “No, it’s not.”

Chicago Blackhawks (2) vs. Nashville Predators (7): Blackhawks in 5
I’m giving Nashville one win in this series. Chicago’s roster is much stronger than theirs for them to even have a chance even though goaltending isn’t outstanding in either case. My only need here is to take a pair of sissors to Patrick Kane‘s “mullet” because, honestly, what does he know about those?

Vancouver Canucks (3) vs. Los Angeles Kings (6): Kings in 6
After having a few days to flesh out this series in my mind, I get more confident every time I see these two names side by side. Albeit, any deficiencies in the Kings lineup (see post below), this will be a great match up to the end!

Phoenix Coyotes (4) vs. Detroit Red Wings (5): Red Wings in 6
Detroit will finish out this series on top because Phoenix’s ride is done. Dave Tippet, you’ve done a great job with this franchise and I see a Jack Adams Award in your near future, but your road ends here.

Eastern Conference

Washington Capitals (1) vs. Montreal Canadiens (8): Capitals in 4
The Caps are sweeping this round because Montreal really has no business being in the playoffs. They squeaked in and they’ll be blown out in the first round. Harsh, but true. This series will be less about the goaltending and more about trying to stave off the Washington forwards.

New Jersey Devils (2) vs. Philadelphia Flyers (7): Flyers in 6
Even though the Devils are ranked higher, I’m picking the Flyers based on the regular season series between these two clubs, nothing else. Philly won 5-1 against the Devils.

Buffalo Sabres (3) vs. Boston Bruins (6): Sabres in 5
Two words: Ryan Miller.

Pittsburgh Penguins (4) vs. Ottawa Senators (5): Penguins in 5
I have to favor the reigning champions in this case. Plus it’s Sidney Crosby. No one in Ottawa equals Crosby, and I’m talking about their entire city!
