Join Team Jewels at the CATS Victory for Victims Run/Walk

We here at Jewels from the Crown have written a number of times about domestic abuse and sexual assault in the past, including the systemic problem with domestic violence in the world of sports. This year, we have decided to team up for a great cause, in support of an organization that does meaningful work in this field, and we hope you’ll join us.

The CATS Victory for Victims 5K/10K Run/Walk is a race that raises money to support the Center for Assault Treatment Services (CATS) at Northridge Hospital. CATS is the only facility that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, servicing both the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys (which have combined populations of nearly two million people). It provides clinical services for victims of domestic and sexual assault, as well as outreach and workshops for the local community.

The event will be taking place at Woodley Park (Lake Balboa) on Sunday, April 17th. The 5K starts at 8:15 a.m. and the 10K starts at 8 a.m. All walks of life at all fitness levels are encouraged to participate. Runners, walkers, parents with strollers and even those with dogs (such as I will be) are welcome at the race. After going through the course, you’ll get a finisher’s medal, and there is an expo area with several booths and some light refreshments for all to enjoy. Parking is free and the registration cost is $35 through the end of the month.
