Keeping Up with the Kids – Manchester Monarchs Playoff Preview

A lot has happened in the last two weeks with the Manchester Monarchs.

First, Jonny Brodzinski and his St. Cloud State Huskies were eliminated from Final Four contention by Paul LaDue and North Dakota. He reported to LA to have an ankle injury examined before eventually being assigned to Manchester, New Hampshire to finish out his recovery.

Around the same time, Alex Lintuniemi reported to Manchester after the Ottawa 67’s season ended. The Los Angeles Kings signed him to an ATO (amateur tryout agreement) and then an ELC (entry-level contract) a week later. He made his professional debut last week and picked up his first point on his first shift in the first minute and a half of the game.

Last Friday, the Monarchs signed Brodzinski to an ATO, though he has yet to make professional debut with his high ankle sprain continuing to heal. He was originally given a 2 week prognosis, which would put his timeframe to potentially be inserted into the lineup this weekend.

On April 14, Adrian Kempe officially joined the Monarchs, was signed to an ATO and then to an ELC the next day. He made his AHL debut on Friday, but was held pointless in all three games over the weekend.

Phew, that’s a lot to take in. But don’t go anywhere, there’s more!

Valentin Zykov‘s junior team, the Gatineau Olympiques, were also eliminated from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) playoffs, making Zykov eligible to report to Manchester. So far he has not but he’s expected to head out that way once some lingering health issues are cleared up.

On Sunday, Nick Shore was officially reassigned to Manchester after he was medically cleared to return to action.

So, once Zykov is added into the mix, the lines will probably look a little something like this:

Yeah, try and pick a top line out of that. I dare you. Even the fourth line is pretty sick.
