Sorry for the two week delay in posts. I’ve been dealing with some personal drama in my life but now I have made time to update you lovely folks on the top prospects in the Kings‘ system.
Modo SE
After finishing up the regular season dead last in the SHL, Modo appeared to be getting relegated to the HockeyAllsvenskan, which, according to Wikipedia, is a step down from the SHL. So I guess it’d be kind of like AHL?
Anyway, they swept the series with some team called Vita Hästen, which translates to White Horse. They played them four times and won 3-0, 2-0, 4-1 and 4-1. The last victory (which occurred on Wednesday, March 25) officially secured them a contract for one more year in the SHL.
This is actually good news for Adrian Kempe, whose (immediate) future looked quite murky for about a week. I’m going to hazard a guess that with Modo remaining in Sweden’s top league, Kempe will finish out his contract with the team and then come over in 2016 after his team is done for the season.

Not much has really changed in the last two weeks with the Monarchs. Weal and O’Neill continue to terrorize the rest of their division while Miller has padded his team leading PIM total. The funny thing is, he’s only been in two fights. He’s just rather undisciplined, especially compared to fellow blue liners Gravel and Forbort.
Kevin Raine is not an offensive dynamo, but he impressed enough at training camp to earn a one year AHL contract. He’s been somewhat in and out of the lineup and he’s been deployed on the third pairing. He hits like a MAC truck and the best thing you could say about him is that when you don’t notice him, he’s having a good game. He’s only 21 so he still has raw potential to be another Matt Greene.
After sweeping the weekend, the Monarchs sit atop the AHL with a cool 90 points, up three points on the second place Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals) with a game in hand. The Monarchs are essentially the Anaheim Ducks (tons of regular season success, run cold in playoffs), though I’m not sure if they have the same infuriating third period comeback abilities as the Ducks. Also, they’re actually better WRT corsis and stuff this season.

After being in second place for most of the season, the Monarchs have now dethroned the Worcester Sharks for most shooty-supressy team in the league. Even the Kings’ AHL affiliate has to one-up the Sharks, SMDH.

The Monarchs are vacating Verizon Wireless Arena this weekend for the NCAA Hockey Tournament. Paul LaDue, a 20 year-old right shot defense prospect playing for North Dakota will be participating in said tourney, though he’ll be staying in Fargo.
The Monarchs will look to remain in their lofty position while on the road as they visit Hershey and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers).
