Los Angeles Kings @ Calgary Flames Game 2 Recap: It’s Doughty in Overtime!

Entering Tuesday’s game, the Drew Doughty-Matthew Tkachuk hype was at an epic high for a game two matchup, fueled by Doughty’s “I think we both know who the better player is” comments:

The tension between the two dates back to 2017 in Tkachuk’s rookie season when he elbowed Doughty in the face in 2017. Since then the two have taken verbal jabs at each other off ice and taken runs at each other on the ice.

Both brought their A games to the Scotiabank Saddledome Tuesday with Doughty winning in the end.

The Kings built a 3-0 lead on goals from Tyler Toffoli, Sean Walker, and Ilya Kovalchuk, out shooting Calgary 23-4. But just as dominant as the Kings were through the first 29 minutes, they were dominated themselves through the next thirty minutes.

Tkachuk scored twice and assisted on the other Flames goal. His tying goal was tallied with just 64 seconds left in regulation, an empty net behind him.

It was Doughty who had the last laugh, though, scoring a power play goal 50 seconds into overtime to give Todd McLellan his first win as the Kings coach, a 4-3 victory.

The Kings are now 1-1-0, while the Flames dropped to 1-1-1.
