Those doing virtual learning with kids know that it’s no easy task. My niece is almost five years old and has started kindergarten online, so I’ve heard just about every problem so far, technological or otherwise. Here’s hoping this semester goes as smooth as possible.
If you’ve got some young ones doing virtual learning, the Kings Care Foundation released a list of resources back in May, including printable activity sheets and ball hockey video instruction. It is a little outdated — still listing the Bailey’s Royal Reader program, which ended in June — but just in case you missed it the first time around, here’s a quick reminder of what’s still available!
Ball Hockey: Skills and Drills is a video series hosted by Kings radio commentator Daryl Evans and former Kings forward Derek Armstrong (who has done work with the Kings’ Learn to Play program, as part of a larger NHL initiative). In less than five minutes, you’ll learn drills to help develop your stick handling, shooting and puck control.
As far as downloadables, you can find an ice rink diagram, a hockey word scramble, two mazes (one through a jersey, the other through a Kings logo), a blank create-your-own jersey template, four coloring sheets featuring Kings mascot Bailey, and both a Kings-themed word search and crossword puzzle.
Finally, they offer a five-part lesson called G.O.A.L.S. with Bailey. G.O.A.L.S. stands for: Green Solutions, Open Outlooks, Active Bodies, Local Leaders and Sharp Minds. The lessons are short and extremely cute. If nothing else, give ‘em a glance to check out the player Bitmojis they use in the design.
Like I said, I know these came out in May, but maybe like me, you missed them the first time around, or maybe you want to re-visit the lessons. Either way, check them out and post pictures of the masterpieces your little ones make of those coloring pages, please.
