NHL Draft Lottery to be held April 9

If you need a date to circle on your calendar, some concrete point in the future where perhaps the Kings future will become more clear, we’ve got it now, and the date is April 9.

That’s when the lottery balls are going to bounce, and they’ll either go the Kings’ way, or they won’t, but either way we’ll know where the Kings are going to pick, and we’ll know if we need to readjust our dreams of Jack Hughes into something else.

As for the details, the Draft Lottery will be shown live on television, beginning at 8:00 pm Eastern/5:00 pm Pacific time, airing on NBCSN, Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

Yes, it’s a one-hour long broadcast. No, we don’t know why it could possibly take that long.

And in case you need a reminder on how it works: all 15 teams that do not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs will participate in the Draft Lottery. The worse your finish, the better your odds for being selected for a top-tree pick.

The odds for getting the top pick are the same as last year:

Ready to order your Jack Hughes jersey now? Dreaming of Kaapo Kakko and Rasmus Kupari on the same line? Have a favorite prospect that’s a little further down the draft order, just in case? Pretty soon you’ll be able to know just how big you can dream.
