There are rumors that an NHL return is on the horizon, as states begin to loosen public safety policies, but I won’t believe it until I hear it from Gary Bettman himself.
Marvel Week burned me out for a bit, and for a solid week there, it was just Animal Crossing and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. until I could come back from that superhero overload. I’ve gotten back into the swing of the new normal in the last week, though, especially after hitting season four of S.H.I.E.L.D., where the show just gets unbelievably bad. I never learn, do I?
Here’s what I’ve been turning to lately:
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Apparently I’m the only person who didn’t know the newly released fifth season would be the last of this Netflix Original animated series. I’m not emotionally prepared for the show to end, so I’ve been taking my time to get through all 13 episodes. I became a fan of Noelle Stevenson when she was an artist on Tumblr and I feel an attachment to her work from that. This series was an incredible accomplishment for her artistically and creatively. If you like plot-ty children’s cartoons that reflect real world issues, it’s an absolute gem. I can’t wait to find out how it ends, no matter how much I don’t want it to end.
Blocked Party
I’ve been a few weeks behind on this comedy podcast about social media and rejection, because as with many things these days, it was once part of a routine that no longer exists. I’ve been catching up on my backlog of weekly episodes, as well as the Patreon bonus feed, and I forgot how easily hosts Stefan Heck and John Cullen can have me ugly cackling. These two doofuses know how to play off each other so well. The central theme of the show being social media means that it is able to be a bit of comedic relief in a time when we are all terminally online.
Brunch
Speaking of two doofuses who play off of each other well, Pete Blackburn and DJ Bean have also made their way back into my podcast rotation this week. The last three episodes have been bangers and it may or may not have to do with the fact that they keep forgetting to hit record when they start doing the show lately. Sure, they’re Bruins guys, but DJ’s always correct music takes and Pete’s always correct movie takes are worth it. Just two nice boys agreeing with each other about pop culture and sometimes Randy Havens is there. That one guy from Stranger Things? He’s a delight.
How Ridiculous
Himbos must be a trend for me this week, comforting me with their gentle stupidity and kindness in a time without sports. If you want to get emotionally invested in boys caring very earnestly about throwing balls, this YouTube channel has become the best part of my day. The series of them throwing various things off a dam in Sweden had me captivated. These dudes are clowning on each other while fumbling a catch at terminal velocity. It is straight serotonin. They’re always so stoked about whatever goofy thing they’re doing and it is infectious. Just an instant mood boost.
