Rank the Players: Team With Aspirations Beats Team With None

When you’re allowing breakaway goals to Dennis Wideman, you just know you’re ready to be done. Rank the Kings:

Goals from Wideman, Freddie Hamilton, and Alex Chiasson in the second period took the Calgary Flames to a 4-1 win. They’re locked into fourth in the Pacific but have their eyes on the first wild card spot, which would allow them to avoid the Central until the Conference Final. They’re one win (in Game 82) away from doing just that.

On the other hand, LA is playing for… ninth in the West. The stakes are low, and it showed; after falling behind for the second time after Wideman’s goal, the result felt inevitable. Congrats to Jon Gillies, whose first NHL win wasn’t guaranteed tonight. But it wasn’t surprising either.

Final off day of the 2016-17 season… before a whole bunch of off days… is tomorrow.
