Recap: MacDermid Ignites the Kings

The Mood Going into the Game

It’s Dodgers Night at Staples Center and 16,000 in attendance received a Kings/Dodgers bobblehead. That’s a neat little incentive considering that the numbers since the new year are quite horrid: only two wins (one in regulation) balanced against thirteen losses. In seven of the losses, the Kings have scored one goal or fewer.

Jonathan Quick is telling everyone it sucks without Kyle Clifford and Jack Campbell. Tyler Toffoli, Alec Martinez, and Trevor Lewis could be traded at any moment. And Drew Doughty is still chronically late to everything. Fingers crossed they can play spoiler the rest of the way and not be embarrassed on Saturday vs. a surging Colorado Avalanche team in the outdoor Stadium Series game. Let’s face it, now it’s the Alexis Lafrenière Sweepstakes because the Kings are cooked and it appears that they finally understand it.

First things, first. Game 58 vs. the Calgary Flames…

135-Word Recap

Cal Petersen picks up his first win of the season making 35 saves as the Kings down the Calgary Flames 5-3. After returning home to Staples Center after an uninspiring East Coast road trip that saw them go 0-4-0, the Kings tallied five goals for the first time in a month and showed some signs of life going into the national Stadium Series game in less than 72 hours. The Kings were fast, quick and physical. Kurtis MacDermid led the way in the physicality department falling an assist shy of a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. After sleepy 30 minutes, MacDermid squared off with former King Milan Lucic and took his helmet off with some stiff blows that woke up both teams but eventually ignited a Kings offensive outburst not seen in over a month.
