I was just thinking, if the league had slapped the Devils not just with a $3MM fine but with a $3MM cap penalty (which they had obviously intended to do until the NHLPA negotiated their way out of it on Lou’s behalf), would the Devils now be down to two lines and a couple of spares, like my old beer league team? Or would it be three full lines and two pairs of D, like my Squirt team?
Bonus: when’s the last time you saw a team sign a free agent (Adam Mair) and then not be able to put him on the roster, because they can’t afford to?
