Kings call up Martin Jones and Tanner Pearson

Per Kings Insider Jon Rosen the Kings have called up both Martin Jones and Tanner Pearson for their upcoming game against the Islanders:

Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was pulled for an injury late in overtime of last night’s game.

Martin Jones has played extremely well for the Manchester Monarchs this season. He has started in all but one of the Monarchs 14 games. He is 9-2-2 with a .927 save percentage.

Jones was acquired by the Kings as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He was a hold out this year during training camp before eventually signing and becoming a standout for the Monarchs this year. Jones originally joined the Monarchs in 2010 and has posted a .921 save percentage over 149 AHL games.

Tanner Pearson has 11 points (7g, 4a) in 14 games this season and is among the AHL league leaders in shots with 52. We profiled Tanner Pearson recently in out Top 25 Under 25 series. He has 4 points in 5 games for the Monarchs since the Vey and Toffoli call ups.

No word yet on what roster moves the Kings will be making to make room for Pearson and Jones but we’ll keep you updated as news comes in.

[UPDATE: The Kings have announced that Matt Greene and Kyle Clifford will both be placed on injured reserve, both with… sigh… “upper body injuries.” Greene will be placed on long term IR, which gives the Kings the salary cap flexibility to call up Pearson and Jones.]
