FIVE GOALS. It’s a veritable landslide of goals for the Los Angeles Kings!
Of course, this game wasn’t in the bag until halfway through the third period, when Jeff Carter ended a long spell of frustration with a patented wrister. Vincent Lecavalier responded to our scorn with a goal 39 seconds after Carter’s to make it 4-1, and all that was left was for Carter to score his 300th career goal into an empty net. (Yes, the Kings can score empty netters, but only when they’re already up three goals, and probably only when they’re facing the Canucks.)
Prior to that, we saw Drew Doughty squeak one past Ryan Miller (like Lecavalier would later do) and Anze Kopitar blow one past Ryan Miller (like Carter would later do), making it five unanswered for the Kings after Linden Vey set up Dan Hamhuis to cause some momentary fear. Eventually, though, the Kings proved way too much for a team attempting to play Linden Vey as their first line center. Pair it with a dramatic shootout win for Washington, and what do you get? LA actually gaining a point on Anaheim!
The last time LA won and Anaheim lost on the same night? January 17, which was actually a Kings win against the Ducks.

Now, then, what does LA’s own matchup with Washington on Wednesday hold? If tonight is any indication, we’ll get plenty of Vinny, Jeff taking a bunch of shots, and Tyler Toffoli looking increasingly desperate to break his own schneid.
(We’ll also get plenty of Justin Williams-related tears, but we’ll try not to think about that for a while.)
