Ontario Reign announce 2019-20 schedule

The Ontario Reign, the Los Angeles Kings’ AHL affiliate, announced their 2019-20 schedule today.

The team opens their season at home for the first time, facing off against the San Jose Barracuda on Friday, October 4. That’s one of 12 times the Reign and Barracuda will meet throughout the season.

In previous seasons, the Reign have played an assortment of out-of-division opponents, with trips through the midwest often occurring once a season. This year, however, of their 68 regular season games, the Reign will play a Pacific Division team 64 times. The Iowa Wild are the only team making the trek west to play out of their division. (The Reign play two games against Iowa on the road in November; Iowa comes to Ontario for two games in December.)

In addition to their 12 games against the Barracuda, the Reign also take on the Bakersfield Condors, San Diego Gulls, and Stockton Heat 12 times each. They have eight games each against the Colorado Eagles and Tucson Roadrunners.

The Reign see the most action in November, with 13 total games on the schedule. February is the busiest month at home, with seven games to be played at the newly re-named Toyota Arena. October and March are the lightest on games, with the Reign having eight games each that month.

There are 22 back-to-back sets of games on the schedule. There are no three-in-three game sets, but there are six sets of three-in-four games, generally with games being played on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

The Reign have two five-game homestands (December 6-15 and March 14-27) and two five game road trips (December 28-January 8 and January 24-February 7).

As previously reported, the Reign will be hosting the 2020 AHL All-Star Game, to be held on January 26 and 27. This is the first time the AHL has held its All-Star Game on the west coast.
